Token Counter
Paste your text to see how many tokens it will consume. Supports GPT-4, GPT-3.5, Claude, and other models.
Token Count
0
How it works
This tool uses an approximation: roughly 4 characters = 1 token for English text. Different models and languages may vary.
For production use, consider using official tokenizers (tiktoken for OpenAI, etc.).
How to Use This Tool
- Paste your text – Copy and paste the content you want to analyze into the input field above
- Select a model – Choose your target LLM (GPT-4, Claude, etc.) from the dropdown
- View results instantly – See total tokens, percentage of context used, and remaining tokens
- Copy the count – Use "Copy Token Count" button to save results to clipboard
Common Use Cases
- Estimate API costs before sending prompts to LLM services
- Ensure your prompt fits within the model's context window
- Optimize prompt length for faster API responses
- Compare token efficiency across different models
- Plan training data sizes for fine-tuning models
Example
Input: "Tell me about artificial intelligence in 50 words"
Output:
• GPT-4: ~20 tokens
• GPT-3.5: ~22 tokens
• Claude 3: ~19 tokens
Different models tokenize slightly differently, so check model-specific tokenizers for exact counts.
